yellow-sub.jpgOn January 17, 1969 the Beatles released their eleventh album, Yellow Submarine. This album was the soundtrack for the animated film of the same name. This is viewed as the group’s weakest album; it only featured six songs from the band and the Beatles didn’t consider this a real studio album because, four of the six songs were recorded in the previous 2 years. The song Yellow Submarine was featured on their seventh album, Revolver. The single went to number 1 on the British charts for 13 weeks. It won an Ivor Novello Award for the highest certified sales of any single issued in the UK in 1966. In the US the single peeked at number 2. the song received bad publicity through rumors that it referred to hypnotic Nembutal capsules. Paul McCartney has denied the allegations, saying he had written the song as a children’s tune.
